‘ “And [Paul] stayed two full years in his own rented quarters and was welcoming all who came to him, preaching the kingdom of God and teaching concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all openness, unhindered” (Acts 28:30-31; italics added).’ This quote is significant to the book, Openness Unhindered, because it is the foundation of the entire book. The title of the book is derived from this verse. Butterfield, the author, uses the rest of the preface to elaborate on the importance of being in an open relationship with Christ. She declares that it is imperative to be open with the Lord to have a true, intimate relationship with Him. Butterfield uses this quoted Bible verse in hope that a struggling believer will find it helpful in his or her walk with Christ.
ReplyDelete"By so doing, he drew close to the Lord, who knows our pain better than we do."
ReplyDeleteIn this quote, Butterfield (the author of Openness Unhindered) is talking about Paul applying his faith to his pain through the power of the Holy Spirit. This quote is accurate in this book but also accurate in every day life. It reassures us that we are never alone because we have God. This quote shows us that the Lord knows what we are going through always, even when we seem lost. We should have faith in the Lord because He puts us in certain situations for a reason. We may not always understand the reason, which is why Butterfield shows us through this quote that it is okay that we do not fully understand, because God understands and that is ultimately all that matters.
Rosaria Champagne Butterfield's book "Openness Unhindered" has many relevant quotes. One quote that stood out to me was "we are all sexual sinners." This stood out to me because there were many examples of how this can be true. Whether you are "LGBT" or have a pornography addiction, everyone has to deal with this sin. She then explained how you do not have to deal with it alone because your family and friends are dealing with it second handed too. Throughout this book, I believe that this quote will come up often.
ReplyDelete“Hold nothing back from God”
ReplyDeleteIn this quote, Rosaria Champagne Butterfield starts off explaining that we hold nothing back from the god who created us and will take cares of us. I agree with this quote because I am a Christian and a follower of Christ. I believe that we need to open up to the god that loves us even when we sin and disobey him. “We need to give him or hearts“ Butterfield states. “This kind of intimacy and trust is unsettling to us in our natural or unconverted self”. Which I agree 100% because I think this generation struggles with being close to god, because of social media many people just push him away. They are distracted by sin. She is trying to educate us that we need to open up to god and give him everything because he will love and care for us.
Pertinent Quote: “We give him our heart, our desires, our dreams, our struggles, our doubts, our fears, and out identity… we do not keep a record of the countless times we have failed God in sin”.
ReplyDeleteThis quote from Openness Unhindered is important because it gives readers who might be struggling in their walk with God advice on how to better that relationship. This could even make readers feel comforted, knowing that they have “failed God in sin”, that it’s not the end of the world. The quote above, describing the title of the book, is what the author describes as the relationship everyone should have with their creator, making this a key phrase introduced in the beginning of the book.
“Openness implies that we hold nothing back from the God who made us and will take care of us.” This quote is key in my opinion because it pertains to what the book is about. She is saying to be open and never hold anything back from anybody, especially God. This quote could be pulled back up throughout the book because its about being open, which the author has to do more than once. So hold nothing back which in her case is her sexual preference, from anybody.
ReplyDeletePertinent Quote: I was a true believer before I became a true believer in Christ.
ReplyDeletethis is a important quote in my opinion because of the lifestyle Butterfield lived and what she was doing. she had to give up her old life and be a true believer before she could truly believe in Christ and all the things that Christ did for us. Her old lifestyle was against the bible (Leviticus 20:13) but when she asked for forgiveness and truly accepted Christ as her savior she was able to start new and believe in truly in Christ. In short she transformed her life and probably has a good lifestyle and happy i don't know her so i wouldn't know.
ReplyDelete“Hold nothing back from God”
I Chose this quote because I have tried to do what this quote directly advises against in more ways than one. I have attempted to hide things from God, and as one could imagine, it didn’t go over very well. I learned the hard way that sin can try to hide in the shadows, but when God says “let there be light,” the shadows evaporate. We would like to think that God is a three dimensional entity, limited by time and space, but we are so wrong. God is at least a 5th dimensional being, he created time, and space, so they are nothing to Him. He is everywhere, at one time, he is in every Church, every Christian house, and in each and every one of our souls. So; sin can run, but it can never hide from God's sight.
"How does one repent of a sin that doesn't feel like sin?"
ReplyDeleteButterfield asked herself this, which is what many people asks their selves as well. Nowadays, people who are sinning, do not realize they are doing that because they think it's a normal thing that everyone will okay with. And when you know you've sin, but it doesn't feel like it, it can be hard to repent. Just like Butterfield, you pray and ask God to help you understand, when you do not know what to do.

ReplyDelete"If God is the creator of all things, and if the Bible has his seal of truth and power, then the Bible has the right to interrogate my life and my culture." This quote is deep because since God is the one that made me, he has every right to look at my life style and tell me to change that if it is wrong.
