  1. "I was perplexed that even though I was a new creature in Christ, that was not good enough." This quote stands out to me because she is confessing that even though she did accept God as her savior and became new through him, she wasn't sure if that would be enough for her not to act upon all of the temptations she was going through. This makes me think about how great a temptation can be to the point where even though you are a new creature through Christ that it will be enough for her to go back to her old habits.

  2. “Personal experience and personal suffering matter to Christ.” (37) This quote declares that in order to find your true identity, you must personally acknowledge your sin and suffering. I support claim because I am a Christian and this is what the Bible says. In order to live your life out happily, you must get your personal experience right with God.

  3. "I am not a sinner because I sin. Rather, I sin because I am a sinner, born with a sin nature because Adam represented me in Eden."
This quote shows us that sin is inevitable no matter what the sin may be. Sin is natural. It is not possible to avoid sin. If you avoid all sin, you would be perfect, which is obviously not possible. Everyone is bound to sin because, just as the quote says, Adam represented us humans in the garden of Eden when sin was first created.

  4. "Can you trust your feelings?" This quote speaks to me because I am a very emotional person that goes through any moods a day. All of these moods can sometimes make me do things I wouldn't usually do. For example, I might get in a terrible mood and lie to someone or be rude to someone who has done nothing toward me. Butterfield explains how she was able to control her feelings through identity in Christ.

  5. “I became that which I had formerly loathed”

Chapter 2 in the book Openness Unhindered was all about “identity”. The quote “ I became that which I had formerly loathed”. She is saying in this quote that she disliked who she was in the past. Butterfield was a Christian and she realizes that “being sexually active with women was off limits was very clear”. This really speaks to me, because she was tempted but she loved god so much that she knew she had to give up her temptation. She put all her focus on god and even in the hardest times when her body was telling her one thing. She stuck by god and loved him. I think that’s what makes Christianity. When a human sins but realizes it puts all the faith into god like Butterfield did.

  6. "God set apart a people from the foundation of the world." this quote is basically just saying that God made everyone different. we all have our unique qualities, some pleasing to God, some not. Rosaria Butterfields uniqueness' is her attraction towards women, so she is saying that is how God made her different

  7. Pertinent Quote: "I am not a sinner because I sin. Rather, I sin because I am a sinner, born with a sin nature."
This quote is important because it tells us we are all the same, we all can relate to what the author is speaking to us about, weather we are struggling with homosexuality, lust, anger, pornography, asultry, or drunkebess. This sentence tells us that we are all sinners and ,later on, tells us that it's up to us how we deal with and face this sin.

  8. “What is sexual transgression? The sex? The Identity? How far does repentance go?“

This quote is what goes through the mind of every man after they just viewed pornography, maybe not verbatim, but it is close enough. After all, is watching pornography a sin? Although the Bible does not say in Exodus chapter 41 verse 1; And then God sayith “though shalt not watcheth pornography, or though is damned to Hell.” No, but Jesus does say; “if you look upon a woman with lust in your heart, you have already committed adultery.” That is what we do when we watch it! Men of God, stand up, call it what it is! It is a sin, but then we must ask ourselves, after we call it out, how many times can we ask forgiveness and be forgiven? Gods grace go’s so deep that the answer is; every time. How far can we go till we are unacceptable to God? You can go to the Lake of Fire and back, but it still isn’t far enough.

  9. "God wants us to hear his voice through the word of God."
This quotes is saying that God wants us to find the main reason of scriptures. We need to be able to hear Him and understand every word in the bible, even though it was written by men. He wants us to hear him not just when we are reading the bible, but in any situation or conversation we have.

  12. Quote: I will lay the weight of my sinking spirit on the free grace of Christ.
This quote means that you give all your troubles to christ. Also it means that you give your spirit to Christ and he will wash away your past and create your future. One can choose to not let the free grace of Christ into them and let him take control but that will just lead one down the road to more deadly sin.
