In a topic-driven, well-developed paragraph (like Peter Bigelow’s), SUMMARIZE the first half of Gagnon’s “More than ‘Mutual Joy.’” Clearly identify the author’s thesis and supporting arguments—Gagnon’s “they say.” Be specific. Use examples from the text in your response to substantiate your claim.

Summary of More than Mutual joy part 1:

In Dr. Gagnon more than mutual joy he slams Lisa Miller. Dr. Gagnon states that Miller completely ignores every major argument against the positions that she espouses. He also states that there is no core value in any religious or philosophical tradition. Also he states that miller's argument that Paul's remarks against homosexual practice in Romans 1:24-27 were directed only at certain exploitative (violent) forms of homosexual practice doesn't work out. He also states that Miller is full of mistakes on lesbianism.

  2. In Dr. Gagnon more than a mutual joy destroys Lisa millers article on gay marriage. Dr. Gagnon shows us that she is wrong on every subject she runs through. He also states that there isn’t really value to her religious standpoints. He points out that she only quotes from scholars that support gay marriage like, “Walter Brueggeman, and Neil Elliott. Dr. Gagnon has been to many prestiges schools like Dartmouth, Harvard, and his PhD in theological seminary. And he states in the article “from the thousand pages or so that I have written on the subject over the past decade miller cites not a word, including my critique of Elliott’s untenable claim that Paul in romans 1:24-27 was thinking of only of the exploitative homosexual intercourse practiced by depraved emperors like Nero and Caligula. Dr. Gagnon knows his stuff and is calling Lisa miller out through this whole article.

    The Other Side

In the first half of his essay disputing Lisa millers “Mutual Joy”, Mr. Gagnon is immediately on the point, he is spilling the beans on Miller’s quotes. Whilst Miller says, in one of her larger points of attack that she makes is that we should run as fast as we can away from scriptural opposition to today’s ideas, as they have no relevance in Modern society. So as a response Mr. Gagnon states that she has remained blind, at least in her paper, to all of the modern arguments being made against homosexuality. He latter corrects his misleading counterpart on the correct quotation of Paul in Romans 1:24-27, saying that it dishonors the participants, even if it is not limited to violent forms. Just like some “men” beat their spouse, some Homosexual men beet their male lovers, and Gagnon is stating that it is not just the beating that is wrong with the latter, it is also the mal on male relationship that is wrong. He give four reasons for his beliefs in this.

    More than “Mutual Joy” Summary

People that support gay marriage most of the time ignore or change the major arguments that the Scripture and philosophy against homosexual practice. Lisa Miller exaggerates discontinuity and downplays continuity between marriage values in Scripture and our own values. “She shows little or no understanding of the of the historical and literary contexts of the texts that she treats.” This shows us how Dr. Gagnon feels over the knowledge that Miller gives in her writing. In Romans 1;24-27 Paul put homosexual practice as “sexually impure”, “unnatural,” and “indecent” or “shameful” behavior that “dishonors’ the people doing this. Dr. Gagnon talks about how Miller has a lot of mistakes on the issue of lesbianism. When Miller tries to refer in her article to the Bible’s laws regulating slavery as an analogue to the prohibition of homosexual practice, Dr. Gagnon says that this Is a terrible analogy. Miller ignores that Jesus felt so strongly about a male-female “prerequisite” for a right sexual relations of the context of marriage. Dr. Gagnon clearly disagrees with Miller and gives his opinions and texts on why she is wrong.

    More Than "Mutual Joy" Summary

In the first half of "More than 'Mutual Joy': Lisa Miller of Newsweek against Scriptrue and Jesus", Gagnon tears apart Lisa Miller's article. He has written about every one of her mistakes and he explains thoroughly why they are wrong. He has evidence to support his argument and he also has evidence to support why Miller's argument is wrong. On page 2 of this article, Gagnon says "To arrive at her ideological objective Miller makes a number of bad moves. She exaggerates discontinuity and down plays continuity between marriage values in Scripture and our own values." This quote is showing us that Gagnon is not afraid to talk about how Miller obviously does not understand much about homosexuality in the Bible. Gagnon does not beat around the bush when it comes to explaining why his argument is correct.

Dr. Gagnon’s Argument towards Lisa Miller
Dr. Robert Gagnon, an expert in Biblical studies and a graduate of many Ivy League schools argues a majority of Lisa Miller’s Newsweek article about gay marriage. He is in complete disagreement. Gagnon clearly states many examples to counteract many of Miller’s claims. He uses a serious and disagreeing tone throughout his article. Dr. Gagnon gives many references to scripture to counterclaim Lisa Miller’s claims about sexuality. Gagnon says, “There is not the slightest effort on Miller’s part to think critically about her own line or reasoning.” Clearly, it is obvious that Lisa Miller failed to accurately write a public article successfully.

    more than mutual joy
in the first half of more than mutual joy, Dr. Gagon tears apart Lisa Millers newsweek article statements. Dr. Gagon studied religion all throughout college in very notable universities. He talks about how a male female relationship is evident throughout the pages of scripture. He tears apart her opinions about that with some facts. In summary Dr. Gagon spends this article bashing Lisa Millers article on homosexuality and inserts some facts from the bible to go against what Miller says. Personally Gagon is now my favorite because he is a man of God that is against homosexuality.

In this piece by Dr. Robert A. J. Gagnon, he critiques each part of Lisa Millers article on gay marriage. He describes it as "hopelessly distorted and one-sided propaganda." He explains how she does not even "think critically" about her reasoning. He explains how she "exaggerates discontinuity and downplays continuity between marriage values in scripture and our own values." Honestly from my point of view, I believe that Dr. Gagnon's work is much more valid than Lisa Millers because of his credentials. She only has an english major, but he has studied at numerous schools and studied theology and sexuality. He states that she only used one argument that someone else stated and did not even use any of the thousands of pages Gagnon has written on this topic in the past decade. Overall, this essay tears down Miller's writing bit by bit until it becomes a lot of words that have no meaning behind them.

In the first part of Gagnons's essay, he reveals Miller as the uneducated, inaccurate source she is is and rebukes her arguments, giving evidence of the way God intended our sexual relations to be. Gagnon point out to the audience that Miller is picking certain text from the Bible and leaving out the text that is most relevant to the topic. He states, "She shows little or no understanding of the historical and literary context of the texts she treats and ignores just about every major argument against the positions that she espouses." The author gives numerous examples of Bible versus that clearly state man should never lie with another man and the same reference to women. We read that man and women were intentionally created to come together as one and that two of the same sexes are unable to have this unity God created for us.
