  1. The chapter “Sexual Orientation” is mainly about what sexual orientation is and how people perceive it. Sexual orientation basically is defined by humanity and its sexual desires and then separated based on male or female. Butterfield describes how sexual orientation can be represented in different ways because the word sexual orientation means more than what the bible describes sexuality as. She states, “Biblically speaking, there is nothing sinful and nothing “gay” about nonsexual same-sex deep and abiding friendship.” She puts this quote in this chapter because sexual orientation does not recognize this as okay like the bible does. Butterfield then begins to argue how this is wrong and how believing in this does not allow the bible to interpret humanity in the correct way .

    Chapter 4 summery (OH)

Chapter four of Openness Unhindered is about a person’s sexuality, how it is a sin, and if it is not a sin where it turns towards sin. It goes into what feelings are pure and pleasing to God, and which feelings are despicable to Him. As an example, in the book (page 93) a man, Nick, notices his friend, Rick, with pleasure. Whilst there was asexual desire present, he also feels the desire to be of service to his friend. He wants to get him a glass of punch, to get too know him, and to talk to him, these feelings have nothing to do with sexual desires, they are a desire for community, for friendship. However what happens after those feelings is what counts; where do your thoughts travel? If they stay in the ball park of friendship and purity, then they are natural, but if they go into a sexual area of thought, then they are no longer healthy.

  3. The Chapter “Sexual orientation” is about sexual orientation and by defining humanity according to sexual desires and segregating it according to its gendered object. And was categorized by male and female. Butterfield states her own say by saying “We must stop and ask: why would the category of sexual orientation include nonsexual affiliation except for the purpose of defining in a new way what it means to be human”. She is saying that that we are denying our makers instruction. She says this because sexual orientation is not to be put in a category “ we use categories to represent image barriers not a holy gods matter”.

  4. The Chapter "Sexual Orientation" in Openness Unhindered is about how sexual orientation is identified in society. Butterfield tells us the definition of sexual orientation by stating at the beginning of the chapter " sexual orientation: an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic, and/or sexual attractions to men, women, or both sexes" which is what the American Psychological Association defines it as. Butterfield repeatedly tells us about how sexual orientation is deeper than just sexual desire. When she gives an example of Nick and Rick, she makes it known that Nick not only has sexual desire, but he has a desire for companionship as well.

  5. Chapter four of Openness Unhindered opens with an overview of the history of sexual orientation. Sexual orientation and self- ideology of oneself date back to the Romantic Period when self- expression was highly sought out. Sigmund Freud rekindled this idea in the nineteenth century. According to the text, the idea of sexual orientation is determined by our sexual desires. Sometimes, a follower of Christ can become blind to his or her sexual orientation and fall into the temptation of homosexuality. This is when he or she should repent of their sin and be cleansed.

  6. Chapter four is talking about sexual orientation and what it is and what it means. The chapter starts off talking about Nick Roen and his blog post. Then Rosaria goes on to talk about how she disagrees with a category that he promotes. Then the chapter goes on to talk about heterosexual, and if that is more of a sin than just being homosexual, I say no, all sin weighs the same. To sum up the chapter it is about the types of sexual sin and peoples views and how It is a sin and it is defining humanity.

  7. The chapter Sexual Orientation begins with history of changing orientation, later going into how we become contempt with a sinful act, before giving us Gods point of view on the matter. Freud introduced the idea of changing ones orientation in the 19th century. He thought that whatever one was feeling inside towards the opposite or same sex should be embraced, that it’s okay to have attraction to the same sex. Rosaria later goes on to speak that many times we are “blind to our sin”, that we make excuses so we think our (sinful) situation is okay. She always reinforces that homosexuality is not any higher degree sin than any other, that all sin is the same in God’s eyes. Towards the end of the chapter the importance of Gods design and plan is discussed. Telling us that we are created in God’s image and that it is wrong for us to try and change or question how we are designed to be sexually oriented.

  8. Chapter four on "Sexual Orientation" talks about the point of view where it gay people think that being homosexual is something really normal. It talks about how gay people should not be ashamed to say they are attracted to the same sex. This is something that is totally against the Bible and what it says. Even though Rosaria was once gay she talks about how she disagrees with that now and how wrong this sin is. Rosaria says even a Christian can become blind to a sin and that if this happens, we should repent right away and be cleansed by God.
