    Dillard Considered Opinion

The apt. phrase "considered opinion" means that one has to "think about and be drawn toward" that topic. So in this context the phrase "considered opinion" that Dillard and her sisters have to think about and be drawn toward that opinion of the movie being discussed. Also her opinion is a considered opinion because she is not the same person and doesn't have the same feeling about the subject as she did back then. If someone asked "is that your considered opinion," then its your past opinion and may not be the same now. Finally, considered opinions are thoughts that one might have if you are not sure about leaving maybe a college or a job.

    Dillard Considered Opinion
When Annie's mother, Pam, insists that Annie has a "considered opinion", she is insisting that Annie is not having her own opinion, but rather the majority of everyone else's opinion. For example, on the last page in the third new paragraph, Annie tells her mom about how she thinks Eisenhower is going to win. Her mother automatically starts questioning her opinion. Annie tells her mother that everyone else is thinking it, so that is why she is also thinking it. She is trying to teach her daughter to have her own opinion in everything just as she does.

  3. Annie's mother, Pam insist that Annie has a "considered opinion", Annie's mother pam is trying to teach her daughter to have her own opinion, instead of Annie always following the crowd and there opinion. Annie's mother is very understanding on the other hand like when she states, that her mother "respects the rare few who break through the new ways." Having a considered opinion is you being different, and you standing by your morals and values.

    Considered Opinion- An American Childhood

An excerpt from Annie Dillard’s An American Childhood tells of her mother and her mother’s take on things. Her mother has an opinion on just about any and everything in life, and will argue it with anybody. Pam Doaks, her mother, says that her children have a “considered opinion.” A considered opinion, as defined by Black’s Legal Dictionary, is “an opinion that is based on a study, reason or thought.” Mrs. Doaks is saying that her children believe most of what they hear and just “go with the flow.” She wants her children to think like she does, and gather their own facts before making an opinion

  5. In this short story, Annie's mother is trying to teach her that she needs to have a "considered opinion". She explains how she needs to have her own ideas about issues and not just following along with everyone else. She wants her daughter to be like her, and she has her own personal opinions about things. For example, Annie states how her mother will "take on anybody on any issue." This explains how she will stand for what she believes in, no matter what others are saying.

    Dillard

The essay, “An American Childhood” starts off with a scene of a family in the house on a Sunday when the mom was in the kitchen and the dad watching a baseball game. The mother hear the commentator say “Terwilliger bunts one!” and this little phrase stays in her head a long time. She asks if that is even language and would use it at random times because that is the way she is and the way that she thinks about things and would argue on just about anything. The mother wants Annie to develop her own “considered opinion”. She wants her daughter to develop her own opinion on things and arguments and not just go with whatever everyone else thinks or does and I feel like that is also what we have been doing in our English class.

    Considered opinion
In the article "an American Childhood" Annie's mother insists that she has a considered opinion. This basically means that she doesn't have her own opinion, she goes with the crowd. This basically means that she is conforming to the culture instead of having her own opinion. All she wants is her daughter to be like her.

    American Childhood
When Dillards mother says a considered opinion I think that she means for her daughters to consider everything about a situation before making an opinion. This is demonstrated in the last two paragraphs of the excerpt, when Dillard is predicting the next president. Dillard thought that Eisenhower would win the election, he mother challenges this opinion by asking why she believes this. Dillard states that she thinks so because it is what everyone else seems to think, her mother counters this by asking if she consults everyone before making a decision, and if everyone thought it would be a good idea to round up all of the Jews, would it be a good idea just because everyone said so?

    Considered Opinion
In "An American Childhood" Annie's mom insist that her daughters have a considered opinion. A considered opinion means to have your opinion and ideas. Her mom doesn't want her daughters to think like others just because the majority is. She teaches them to have their own opinion and to take a stand on things that are not right.

    Writing Prompt 2: (In-class paragraph)
Annie's mom, Pam, is a nonconformist. She has her own opinion and ideas, and she publicly states them. She marches to her own beat. A contrarian is someone who rejects popular opinion, which she does do, but only if she does not agree with the popular opinion. This is what makes her a nonconformist, she has her own opinion even if everyone disagrees.
