wk9 - TRIANGULATION – Fischer, Charles, and Luck

In a single topic-driven, well-developed paragraph, clearly identify each author’s thesis and where the three articles “triangulate”—where they form a general consensus. In other words, where do they all AGREE? Be specific. Use examples from each text in your summary—textual evidence (summary, paraphrase, and quote).

NOTE: After posting on the blog, open up the CANVAS assignment (by the same name) and DO copy and paste the URL address into the CANVAS "WEB URL" text box so that I have record of your submission on Canvas. Thanks.

    Triangulation- Fischer, Charles, and Luck

The writers Mary Fischer, Tyler Charles, and Kenny Luck all have articles in popular modern magazines that share a common message: There are moral values in this day and age, but yesterdays and today’s youth are completely ignoring them. Fischer’s article addresses the issue with homosexuality. She explains why a woman would leave her husband of ten or more years for another woman. Something that would be considered a sin, and is in fact, a sin, has become fairly common by today’s standards. Tyler Charles elaborates on the issue of premarital sex and abortion. He says that many self- claimed “Christians” are enjoying the worldly pleasure of sex before marriage, and the self-satisfaction of no longer having a baby to take care of. As we can see here as well, many “old school” truths are being ignored by young people. Making the claim that many young people are “sexual atheists” is Kenny Luck. He says that the mentality of young people boils down to one statement: God’s word is good for every aspect of my life, except sexual relationships. Luck coins the term “sexual atheist” from this mentality. With the moral decline of our nation happening right before our eyes, no time has been more critical than now to identify the problem. In order to solve it, young people need to get back to the basics: God and his word.

All three of the writers Mary Fischer, Tyler Charles, and Kenny Luck have a an article in popular modern magazines that all pretty much share the same message. There are moral values but now a days our youth is just ignoring it half of the time. Fischer’s article talks about the issue of homosexuality. She explains why a woman would leave her husband of ten or more years for another woman. Which is a sin and would be frown upon but in todays age is somewhat common. Tyler Charles explains about premarital sex and his opinion on abortion. Tyler Charles tells us that many self- claimed “Christians” are enjoying the pleasure of sex before marriage, they are having sex for because they love sex not for the right reasons. A lot of “old school” rules are being broken and not used by our youth. Kenny luck made claim that many young people are “sexual atheists”.Luck tells us that the mentality of young people are described in one statement: “God’s word is good for every aspect of my life, except sexual relationships”.

    What is wrong?

The thing that all of these essays have in common is the Idea that Homosexuality has become normal in today’s modern and hip hop culture. The enemy is trying to insert himself into the church, in the same ways that he did in the days of Paul. The church in Corinth was fighting the same battles as the modern church is today, sexual impurity. Satan will always seek to destroy Gods creation, Homosexuality is another tool.

What all these authors have in common is they all are openly talking about topics that society normally wants to keep on the down low. Fischer talks about how some women decide to go with other women when they become divorced from their husbands. Fischer tells us about how women like having sex with other women because it is more intimate to them. They enjoy the ideas of other options other than just heterosexual sex. Most of the American society (especially American men) do not care to hear about how their ex wife may possibly turn gay because they could not fill her intimate needs. Charles tells us about abortion in his article and how it is mainly from premarital sex. Society does not like hearing about how it is wrong to have premarital sex but Charles educates us anyway on this topic. In Luck's article, he tells us about how Christians want to jump right in to sexual activity despite the Christian's belief of premarital sex. Luck tells us that we think we know how to satisfy our needs better than God knows how to satisfy our needs, so we do not wait for God's help. We take matters in our own hands and sin because of it. All three of these authors agree that today's society is changing, obviously. Women leaving their husbands for other women is starting to become normal. Having an abortion is starting to become normal. Having premarital sex is already normal. However, all three of these things are looked down upon from God, yet we think it is still okay,

    Triangulation Fischer Charles and Luck

Why and what is happening? That is the question I am asking to all Christians that decide this is normal and allowed. Every piece of these essays have one thing in common that societies norms have changed that everything we knew growing up and been taught is wrong. But this is where we can try to do something about. We can get more involved to confront these people that let Satan use these temptations we call SIN to control their thoughts, and lives. The generation now don't know what the baby boomers and the other elderly folks know and haven't learned or listened to what they try to say. We don't listen and as a result we also don't listen in our churches, homes, and especially in today's society. The generation today needs to create their own identity in Christ that is similar to the older generation but with new spin on it that appeals to the younger generation

The three authors, Fisher, Charles, and Luck, all have something in common. That something is they all talk about morals of today and morals of yesterday and how the younger generations are just ignoring these morals. Fisher talks about homosexuality, Charles talks about premarital sex, and Luck talks about how todays generation is "sexual athiests," all these are problems with the younger crowd and they are just ignoring it.

The similarities that these three writers, Fischer, Charles, and Luck have is that the way this generation is now looking and changing the moral lifestyle is going out of hand as I would say. These relationships and sex between homosexuals and new ways of thinking are expected to be taken normally by the community. Fischer talks about how a woman may leave her husband because of the way the other woman may make her feel socially and intimately. Woman that have left their husbands for another woman have said they enjoy the sex with the woman more because the sex with the male lacked intimacy and this shows why some might prefer to have sexual relationships with other woman. Charles talks about how the majority of young Christians have had sex before marriage. Even though most of Christians agree that sex before marriage is a sin, it still occurs that they have committed this sin. They are just enjoying the pleasure of sex instead of waiting and doing it for the right reasons and at the right time. A lot of the abortions come from marriage before sex and this is another reason to be so against this. Luck tells us how we need to rely completely on God for him to satisfy all of our needs instead of taking this into our own hands like most of us teens tend to do so. Things that our generation these days are things that God forbids and looks down upon so these are things that we need to stop doing.

  9. The three writers, Fischer, Charles and Luck all share similarities in their writings. One main similarity they all share is their thoughts on today culture and the children living in it. Situations such as homosexuality and premarital sex are just a few of the issues our youth goes through everyday and we are all ignoring. Kids are going through life just going with what the culture is saying, and the culture is not preaching God. So called "Christians" will follow God in every aspect of their life until it comes to sexual relations. From there people become homosexual, bi, or enjoy heterosexual relations that rely solely on sex. Overall, each piece of writing talks about similar aspects of today's culture and its youth.

Charles, Fischer and Luck’s articles all agree, or triangulate, in the fact that today’s culture has shaped and is currently shaping this generations view of sexual relations before and even after marriage. Mary Fischer, writing for The Oprah Magazine, makes known the popular trend of sleeping around with the sexual partner of your choosing and encourages it. She attempts to explain the reason for attraction, that, “a handful of studies in the 1990s, most of them focused on men, suggested that homosexuality is hardwired,” but these “studies” have not had conclusive data on the mater from the 1990s till now. Kenny Lucks argument is directed more at the church, in that Christians attitude toward God is what has caused such an increase in sexual activity. So many people who claim to be Christians are not living by Gods designed place for sex, in marriage. He says that, “the ultimate expression of self-deception and loss of mind goes all the way back to the garden, when a certain character asked Adam and Eve: "Did God really say that?".” We have become a people that only see God for the grace, love and forgiveness he provides, not his guide to a prosperous life that he has given to us. Tyler Charles, writing for Relevant Magazine, presents us with the shocking statistics of sexual active evangelicals. “42% of evangelical individuals claim to presently be in a sexual relationship and only 20% claim to have never had sex”. Charles delivers numerous facts and poll results of how nonchalantly men and women inside the church are having sex. He finds the main cause of this to be the culture, that young people are so desensitized to sex outside of marriage and haven’t prepared themselves for the temptation to have sex in worldly situations.

What Fischer, Charles, and Luck's articles have in common is what is now consider a social norm. Fischer's article is about women leaving their husbands for other women, because they are more intimate with them. Charles' article is about premarital sex. Many people today enjoy having sex before marriage, and the reason they do this is usually for the wrong reasons. Luck's article is about young people being "sexual atheists". They believe God can be part of their life but not their sexual life. These articles talk about what is acceptable in todays culture and how kids are now going to be living in it.
