Kohler kept me interested to what he had to say throughout the entire presentation. One big part of his story that really stuck out to me was the fact that the topics/majors he studied through college didn't even really help him find the job he wanted. The key to what brought Vaughn great success was his ability to write and communicate well. The statistic he presented, that the number one problem employers found in their employees was communication skills, really surprised me. Kohler told us that having just that, just communication skills, to be able to express yourself and engage in conversation will take you a long way in life weather you become any kind of writer or not.

DeleteMr. Vaughn Kohler's speech on Monday was very informative, but I can narrow everything he said down to one statement: It is possible to do what you like, and make excellent money at the same time. I've heard that statement a handful of times, but when I heard it again on Monday, it really stuck with me. Kohler said that he works when he wants, for how long he wants, doing what he wants. He can choose who he wants to pitch the idea of writing a book for to any wealthy person he chooses. What stood out to me the most was how he achieved that type of occupation. I have often times heard my parents say that you have to make mistakes to learn. I found this truth hitting my ears again this past Monday. When Mr. Kohler named all the jobs he'd taken up before his current, and then threw around a few figures, I was shocked. However, he did have to work multiple other jobs that weren't as good as his present. In summary, in order to be happy in life, I need to lock in a job where I enjoy what I'm doing so I don't have to be that guy shopping around for a decent job.

DeleteMy takeaway form Mr. Kohler's presentation on Monday was that there are many opportunities for you in the world, you just have to find which one suits you best. Kohler explained how he was selling water purification systems at one point before he realized what he wanted to do. This can be motivating to those who have a job but are not enjoying what they are doing. I also took away that if you have any writing talent and or enjoy writing then you should consider ghost writing. Kohler explained how he makes good money with flexible hours, but he still has fun doing it. There are opportunities out there for everyone, you just have to find the right one.
